"Local Fashion Designers" is a 5-part series to share with you on local fashion designers who have been making the waves in the fashion scene locally and internationally. Through Singapore may be a small red dot, we are not without our own fashion talents. So stay tuned each week as we introduce the fashion designers. Be informed, be inspired.

Nic Wong

launched in 2005, nicholas is an eponymous label created for the stylish contemporary professional lady of modern times. nic wong, the creative brainchild behind the label, has always been accredited for his meticulous attention to geometrically quirky details in his understated designs for apparels and accessories. the crisp clean lines of his designs are typical of his sensitivity towards technical construction.

having pursued his studies and dabbling in various design industries such as graphic and interior design, nic has developed design sensibilities with the juxtaposition between contrasting elements flaunted on a highly accessible monochromatic palette augmented with bold and vibrant hues.

in 2001, nic bagged the atelier east design excellence award for fashion design and scored a scholarship to pursue his studies in fashion design with royal melbourne institute of technology (rmit). upon graduation, he was voted as one of singapore’s top ten fashion graduates and was awarded with a merit award under the category of ‘best menswear collection’.

Fashion Tips

No one has a perfect body, not even the supermodels that you see strutting down the runway. Everyone has some "flaws", such as being too short or having some flab here or there. Choosing the right kind of clothes can help hide these "flaws" and accentuate your other physical assets. Marcellie would like to share some tips on how to look good and feel good.

At the end of the day, remember that all of us were made unique and special in our own ways. There is beauty in "imperfection". Be confident and proud of your body.

"If you look closely at a tree you'll notice it's knots and dead branches, just like our bodies. What we learn is that beauty and imperfection go together wonderfully." - Matthew Fox

Tip #4: Short legs

If you have short legs, go for high-waisted bottoms or dresses that are tucked in the waist to create an illusion of length. Avoid flared pants, and your jackets or cardigans should be kept short. A tucked-in top is also an option.

Tip #3: Patterned Dress

Patterns add a different dimensions to your body but they need to be matched with your body size. The petites should not choose big patterns for they could 'drown' you.

Robinsons and mio TV presents PRIMETIME FALL FASHION
Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Hi all,
it's been a really long weekend and we sure hope you all had a fantastic one. As for me, I've been working my butt off climbing up two mountains in a row. Upon arrival on the first day and dumping our bags at the hotel, we were then off to conquer Priekestolen (Pulpit Rock). The view from above was amazing. The fjord running through the valley was so pretty. I was wishing M could be there to share the beautiful sight too.

Polaroid with my hiking buddies (Just look at the clear blue sky and waters)
Contrary to popular belief, I am quite a sporty girl so here I am in sports gear from top to toe and of course, a scarf to at least keep me a lil' warmer.

The second day was more of a disappointment. The itinery for that day was actually Kjeragbolten (go Google it! :D) But we didn't manage to reach the final destination - the beautiful boulder sandwiched between two cliffs. Why? The weather was soooo bad. What was the most regretful was that I was actually only 5m away from the plateau top, after overcoming three huge ridges. The wind was too strong and there were signs on impending rain. Plus, so many people kept coming up to us and saying that it was not advisable for us to go any further because I was kind of light and might not be able to withstand the strong wind. Well, that's for being 1000m above sea level. 5m away, such a regret!

One day, I shall come back for you Kjeragbolten

Oh well, that was my adventurous weekend experiencing the steep slopes of Stavanger.

Fashion week came to a close while I was away but well, I'm super thankful that the fashion scene never comes to a standstill. The next big event coming up real soon back in Singapore would probably be Primetime Fall Fashion by Robinsons and mioTV. It's gonna take place at chic Avalon in Marina Bay Sands, on the 29th Sep 2011 at 1930.

Apparently Robinsons might be taking on a new face as they house younger styles such as Lipsy London and more. I love the dresses by Lipsy London. Yes, I admit that while I have a sporty side to me, I am still pretty much a girly girl. Plus, I really love colours. So yes, I'm looking forward to seeing what Robinsons has to offer on the runway.

Check the event out here!

Been catching GossipGirl online when I got back from Stavanger. And can I say I really like the styling! It's quite a pity sometimes that we'll never be able to showcase autumn/winter looks in sunny Singapore. Oh well, spurs me on to then better make use of my time in Norway to dress up :D

What I like about Blair's looks are her hair accessories and her absolutely striking coats. Yes, I love hair accessories alot. Hairbands, clips etc etc. I think they are a fuss-free way to make one look less dull without going over the top.

Opt for a simple elegant look with classy pearl hairbands
(Loving how her hair is all tied back loosely for a clean fresh look)

Of course, there're also the more dramatic accessories like this flower headband
(Really can't get enough of how many ways they did up her hair. Just look at how there's that braid running across her front)

I should get going soon. The weather is too good to stay in. It's not always that we get to see the sun nowadays here in Norway since autumn is setting in. There's so much more that I like about the outfits on GossipGirl but I shall KIV them.

So keep checking this space.
If you can't wait, go get inspired by the show itself then. mioTV features the series :D

Oh just a quick reminder before I end. Do remember that Primetime Fall Fashion will be taking place on 29th Sept 2011, 1930.

HOPE TO SEE YOU JOINING IN THE FUN :D

xoxo,
E.

Elaine @ Cathay Cineleisure
19 years old
Singapore Polytechnic

Bold and eclectic choice of clothes we spotted from afar. We love the pretty swirl prints on this girl's chiffon maxi and also how she toned down the drama with a simple black cardigan. And to avoid looking too dull, she was adorned in classy ring accessories. What amazed us even more was when she told us that the outfit was a stash from her mum's boutique.

OoTD
Here's where she got her stuff:
Cardigan and dress from I & U Boutique (Queensway Shopping Centre),
Accessories, bags and shoes from Topshop

For her stylish outfit match, Elaine walked away with a Marcellie goodie bag worth $15.

Stay tuned for more fashion inspirations!!!
